22.03.2010 Opening of our new studios in Portland, Oregon, USA and Beijing, China

Atelier Dreiseitl proudly announces the opening of new design studios in Portland, Oregon and Beijing, establishing a permanent home both in the US and P.R. China. Zheng Sun, Mauricio Villarreal, Charles Brucker, Eric Bode and Zeljka Carol Kekez have joined a creative alliance with Atelier Dreiseitl to expand the reach of the firm’s global activities in water-related urban policy and ecological urbanism.

In celebration of the launch, the Portland studio will commemorate World Water Day, March 22, 2010 with an event honoring its clients. Easily accessed via Portland Streetcar, Atelier Dreiseitl Portland studio at 735 NW 18th Avenue accommodates 8 designers with an option to expand to over 20 professionals as project load requires. The new studio is located minutes away from the firm’s award-winning project, Tanner Springs Park.

Atelier Dreiseitl’s choice to celebrate the World’s International Water Day on March 22nd by opening its international studio in Portland, Oregon stems from the team’s passion for the region’s commitment to quality of life and a desire to make a difference in communities across the US. According to the founder, Herbert Dreiseitl, in a search for balance, “today, our society is at a unique crossroad between a culture of consumption and the need for protection of our natural ecosystems.” At this intersection of the natural and urban worlds, Atelier Dreiseitl intends to become more globally effective as a steward of the world’s most precious natural resource - water.

Mauricio Villarreal will serve as the Portland studio’s Director leading design and management efforts in US and China. Charles Brucker is a Director for Atelier Dreiseitl’s global LEED and Sustainability program, offering expertise to projects worldwide. As a Director of Technical Planning, Eric Bode will mentor teams during the construction documentation phase of projects in Europe and the US. Collaboratively the team offers more than 50 years of technical proficiency on projects throughout the region. Today, their ingenuity is being applied towards civic landmarks worldwide.

Atelier Dreiseitl is also expanding its presence in Asia by opening a studio in Beijing’s prominent SOHO development, home to some of the world’s renowned architectural luminaries. The studio is located at Jianwai Soho, Tower 9, Unit 2706, 39 Middle Dongsanhuan Road, Chaoyang District, 100022 Beijing, P.R. China. Beijing-native, Zheng Sun will serve as the studio’s Director of management. Zheng studied architecture and design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, Germany where he established his creative career.

The 45 professionals of Atelier Dreiseitl in Ueberlingen, Singapore, Beijing, and Portland share the common philosophy of design stewardship and studio practice. Through its collaborative network, the firm is committed to developing resources and expertise of lasting impact on the design profession and the natural and built environments.

Synchronizing business activities across the four studios is a charge of the Board of Directors. In collaboration with the founder Herbert Dreiseitl and partners Gerhard Hauber and Dieter Grau, Zeljka Carol Kekez will be responsible for directing strategic and business development for Atelier Dreiseitl’s global efforts.
